Dufatanye

Supporting the work of the Dufatanye Organisation.

Dufantanye and GrassRoots Rwanda

Our good friends, David and Janet Brown, had a trust that supported the Dufatanye Organisation in Nyanza. After some discussions with them, it was decided that their support could be channelled through GrassRoots Rwanda as the ethos and values of both our organisations were very similar. They had their own list of supporters which now make their gifts to GrassRoots Rwanda where a restricted fund has been set up just for this project.

Dufatanye Organization began as an association in 2003 and later became a non-governmental organization in Rwanda. Initiated by 7 Rwandans who are the founding members. It was their vision to help the large number of people affected by HIV/Aids, orphans, malnutrition and family conflicts in the community. It was created to help restore hope to the affected members of the community through kitchen gardens, improved food and agricultural practices, as well as, capacity building through socio-economic activities

Their founder and president is Godfrey Karema who supports the vulnerable in the community by working to improve the agricultural practices, fight malnutrition through the construction of kitchen gardens and education on HIV/AIDS.

Godfrey believes that "Joining Together" with a stated goal and purpose for the community has a positive influence and impact on the affirmative development of their lives. He supports the vulnerable in the community by working to improve the agricultural practices, fight malnutrition through the construction of kitchen gardens and education on HIV/AIDS.

Peter Muir, our chairman, visited the site in November 2019 and was impressed with the people there and the work being done. On a 20 hectare site, 250 people farm the land which also support a few houses with their own land for a kitchen garden and a banana tree or two. When I was there, the feeding program was underway, where small children receive a free meal.
